Curious things happen in the world of Calvin and Hobbes, but the most baffling incidents are unintentional. These can range from mispublications to colouring mistakes, but they lead the reader to think, "What happened?" Unfortunately, we may not know for sure. The following is a list of oddities seen throughout the strip's life.
The strip from 5/23/87 that featured Calvin making ice tea was in The Essential Calvin and Hobbes, but not Something Under the Bed is Drooling. See Missing strip.
In a Sunday strip from 5/10/87, Calvin's shirt is white in the second panel.
The strip from 3/13/88 was correctly coloured in some books and miscoloured in the rest.

In The Complete Calvin and Hobbes, the strips from January 7,1987 and November 2,1988 feature alternate dialogue. The alternate dialogue omitted references to adoption and the trade of children. Curiously, the censored January 7 strip did not omit references to cannibalism and child labor.
