Mr. Lockjaw is the gym teacher and coach of the baseball team at Calvin's school. He is a squat, burly man with little patience for people like Calvin who lack a competitive spirit. When Calvin leaves the team, Lockjaw calls him a "quitter." This emotional trauma leads to the reader's first encounter with Calvinball.
Confusion With Gym Intructer
If you look at a comic strip in Something Under the Bed is Droolin you'll notice that Calvin has a teacher wearing a shirt that says Gym instucter. Many consider this to not be Lockjaw because of his hugeness probally put in there so Calvin looked smaller.
