Melville was an alter-ego used by Calvin in order to get more presents from Santa Claus. He explains that he is Calvin's new baby brother, and that his Christmas list shouldn't be confused with Calvin's. Calvin proceeds to exclaim that if it works, "[he]'ll add a new brother every year!" Hobbes then asks sarcastically, "Melville?"
