==History==

===Prelude===

Calvin is exasperated by the extent to which mankind has polluted the Earth. Refusing to inherit a planet so extensively profaned, he looks for a new place to call home. Hobbes suggests Mars, and Calvin gets Hobbes to pack for the Red Planet. He sets up a ramp for his wagon to lift off from, and launches himself into space with his wagon.

Calvin and Hobbes look for a place to set up camp, and come across NASA's Viking probe. Calvin unpacks, but before he and Hobbes can turn in, though, a moving rock catches their eye and the two come across a Martian, who is terrified of them. They run off, and the alien's reaction gets them to think that they may be trespassing somewhat on the planet. Guilty due to their intrusion, they decide to launch the wagon and head back to Earth.

Mars

The Martian landscape

Mars is a planet in the Solar System. It is a terrestrial planet close to the Earth, and is inhabited by Martians.

Geography and Transportation

In the Calvin and Hobbes universe, Mars is more cartoony than it is in the real universe. It is covered in wacky ridges and cracks as far as the eye can see. It can be reached, unbeknownst to any but Calvin, by using his wagon. It is described as being nothing but "rugged, natural beauty as far as the eye can see".

Calvin and Hobbes grew tired of the constant pollution caused to the Earth and decided to get away from it all by flying to Mars. With the help of their wagon, they were able to make it into outer space and travel all the way there, but they forgot to bring the camera with them. They were just getting used to their new surroundings such as trying to find ways to keep their trash from littering the planet, plugging in a night-light, when they noticed that the planet is inhabited by Martians. When they meet one, they are terrified of it and it is scared of them. After they realized that they didn't want to ruin the Martians' planet, they decided to head back to Earth and get used to all the pollution.
