The Flying Carpet is a plot device featured in the 6/15 through 6/20 1987 story arc. In it Calvin used the hallway rug from his house as a magical flying carpet. The carpet needed voice input to control speed and altitude; maneuvering may have been handled telepathically.

In the carpet's only appearance, Calvin flew downtown on it with Hobbes to see his father. Upon arrival, however, he failed to attract his father's attention.
